                                        LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS

 

 

1)      ADAMS, HERBERT Q. AND ELEBERTA E. ADAMS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

            Deadline:  First Friday in MAY

            Amount:  $1000 per semester

           

            Qualifications:

(1)    TEACHING:  Students must be at least a junior in the fall of application year and be in the teacher education program. 

(2)    BOOKKEEPING:  Students must enter a qualifying bookkeeping program at a Kansas educational institution offering such a curriculum for post-high school students.

(3)    CARPENTRY:  Students must enroll in a qualifying carpentry, building construction technology, or building trades curriculum at a Kansas education institution offering such a curriculum for post-high school students.  (Graduate students are not eligible).

 

 

 

 

2)      AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP FUND (Jones-Hardy Post #385)

            Amount:  $400 ($200 per semester)

            Qualifications:

1)      Applicant must be an average student or better scholastically.

2)      Applicant must be a high school senior, who intends to enroll in an approved community college, university or vocational school in Kansas.

 

3)      AMERICAN LEGION NURSES TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP FUND (40/8 VOITURE 335)

            Deadline:  Floating

            Amount:  $2,000 ($500 per semester) Maximum Amounts

           

            Qualifications:

1)      Applicant must have completed one year of college.

2)      Applicant must be approved for a nursing program for Fort Scott Nursing School, Chanute School of Nursing or Labette County Nursing School.

 

4)       THE KENNETH “JOE” AND LUCILE BACON SCHOLARSHIP

Turn in completed application to:  High School counselor

Deadline: April 1st

Amount: $1000 ($500 per semester)

 

Two senior males and two senior females for recipients

Qualifications:

1)      Applicant must be a graduating senior.

2)      Applicant has a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

3)      Applicant must show a financial need as indicated on application.

4)      All applicants must be in good standing with the community and school.

5)      Priority will be given to the student-athlete and their athletic involvement during their high school career.

 

 

    

 

5)      BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

            Amount:  2 non-renewable-$200 grants (one female and one male)

            Qualifications:

1)  Applicant must be a Marmaton Valley High School graduating senior or a previous recipient who forfeited this scholarship.

6)      COTERIE SCHOLARSHIP

            Amount:  $300          

            Qualifications:

1)  Applicant must be planning to attend as a full time student at a four year university, community college or a trade or specialty school.

2)  Applicant must demonstrate scholastic achievement, overall citizenship characteristics and financial need.

 

 

 

7)      ELECTION SCHOLARSHIP

            Deadline:  April 4

            Amount:  $500 (approximately 12 recipients)

           

            Qualifications:

1)  Applicant must be a High School graduating senior.

2)  Applicant must be a high school senior, who intends to major in Journalism, Political Science or Communications in an approved community college, university or vocational school.

3)  Applicant must be a high school senior with a 3.0 or better GPA or freshman or sophomore in college who will complete a minimum of 12 credit hrs in college with a 3.0 GPA.

8)      THE ELSMORE ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

(under construction)  Possibly available for 09.

 

 

 

9)      MARMATON VALLEY COOKS SCHOLARSHIP

            Deadline:  April 15

            Amount:  2 non-renewable-$100 grants

 Qualifications:

1)  Applicant must be a Marmaton Valley High School graduating senior who is a regular participant in the school lunch program.

2)  Applicant must be a high school senior, who intends to enroll in an approved community college, university or vocational school.

 

 

 

10)  LAHARPE HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

            Deadline:  April 1

            Amount:  4 -$500            

            Qualifications:

1)  Applicant must be an Allen County High School graduating senior.

2)  Preference will be given to those who may have family who were students at LaHarpe High or that are now LaHarpe residents.

3)  Scholarship will be based on scholastic achievement, citizenship and financial need.

 

 

11)  THE RONALD LARSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

            Amount:  approximately $350

            Qualifications:

1)  Applicant must be a resident of USD 256 and a graduate of Marmaton Valley High School.

2)  Priority given to students who combine high academic achievement, leadership and participation in school activities.

3)  Financial need will be used only in the event it would be a determining factor in selecting between equal candidates.

   

12)  WILLIAM PRESTON AND BELVAH MCFADDEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

            Deadline:  November 1st

            Amount:  varies around $2500 per semester (renewable up to 2 years)       

            Qualifications:

1)  Applicant’s parent(s) must be residents of Allen County.

2)  Never has applicant been enrolled in a community college.                                                                                                     

3)  Must be a senior in high school.

4)  Has taken the ACT or comparable test

   

 

13)  JULIE MCVEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

            Deadline:  April 15

            Amount:  $500 (two installments of $250)       

            Qualifications:

1)  Applicant must be a senior at Marmaton Valley High School.

2)  Applicant’s parents must reside in Marmaton Valley School District.                                                                                                     

3)  Scholarship is given for post-high school study.

4)  A transcript must accompany the application. 

 

 

 

14)  THE LLOYD E. & KATHERINE S. WINSLOW EDUCATION TRUST

            Deadline: Fall enrollment-July15

                            Spring enrollment-December 15

                            Summer enrollment-May 15

            Amount:  The dollar amount will vary at the decision of the selection committee.              

            Qualifications:

1)      The scholarship is offered to all Allen County students who are graduating high school seniors.  First Preference given to MVHS students.

2)      The applicant must be planning to attend as a full time student at a state accredited educational institution with an approved program.

3)      Must have taken the ACT or comparable test.

4)      Those with need may have priority over those of equal qualifications with less financial need.

5)      Once awarded the award may be renewable.

 

 

15)   HELEN GATES WHITEHEAD SCHOLARSHIP

            Deadline: Must arrive on or before April 15

            Amount: $6000 (at least) and it is possibly renewable.   

            Qualifications:

1)      Full time student in an approved program in an accredited institution of high learning.

2)      Must be an American citizen.

3)      Satisfactory progress toward completion of the intended degree.

 

 

16)   MVHS TEACHER ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Mail completed applications to:  (RETURN COMPLETED APP TO MR. LARSON)                                 

            Deadline: On or before April 15

            Amount: $200 ($100 each semester but could vary).   

            Qualifications:

          1)      Applicant must be a MVHS graduating senior.

          2)      Applicant must be attending an accredited institution of higher learning.

          3)      Applicant must be enrolled full time as defined by the attending institution.

 

17)   HAROLD V. WALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Mail completed applications to:  (RETURN COMPLETED APP TO MRS. CARR)

                                          

            Deadline: On or before April 15

            Amount: $500   

            Qualifications:

1)  Applicant must be a MVHS graduating senior.

2)  Applicant must be attending an accredited 2-YEAR institution of higher learning.

3)  Applicant must have a grade point average between 2.0 and 3.5.

4)  Applicant must have a plan or vision of his/her career.

 

 

18)    DON WESTON SCHOLARSHIP

            Amount: $200   

            Qualifications:

1)  Applicant must be a MVHS graduating senior.

2)  The scholarship is given for post-high school study only.
